Adolescence is an evolutionary stage of major biopsychosocial transformations, in which risk factors for physical, mental and community health can increase. Therefore, its influence on the behavior and development of children, the parenting practices of parents and caregivers, can be a protective factor or a predictor of problem behavior, when they are inadequate. The aim of this study is to analyze the psychometric properties of an adaptation of the Parental Socialization Styles in Adolescence (ESPA-29) scale in a sample of Chilean adolescents. To this end, a non-probabilistic sample of 804 young people between 12 and 19 years of age, 454 men and 350 women, from the Region of La Araucania, Chile, was used. The results point to a general validation of six of its seven subscales (affect, dialogue, indifference, verbal coercion, physical coercion, and deprivation). Observations and recommendations were generated regarding the non- validated subscale (disregard). A validation of a global two-dimensional structure is obtained for the ESPA-29 scale, with the dimensions Acceptance/Involvement and Coercion/Imposition. The findings allow us to conclude that the instrument is reliable to be used in research and intervention contexts, under considerations such as the complementation of information for the interpretation of results.
